Rising Insecurity: FG Shuts Down 47 Unity Colleges Across Nigeria
Nigeria has witnessed a surge in violent attacks in the past week, raising fresh concerns over national security and the safety of schools.
Katsina State, already known for previous mass kidnappings—including the 2020 Kankara abduction of over 300 boys—remains one of the high-risk areas.
Recent Violent Incidents
ISWAP Execution: The Islamic State West Africa Province released footage on Monday showing the execution of Brigadier General Musa Uba, who was captured during an ambush near Damboa in Borno State.
Kwara Church Attack: On Tuesday, gunmen stormed a Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State, killing two worshippers and abducting several others during a thanksgiving service. Part of the incident was captured on livestream.
However, in response to worsening insecurity, the Federal Government has ordered the shutdown of 47 Unity Colleges located in vulnerable regions, acknowledging its inability to ensure student safety.
