Moved By Compassion, CSP Ruka Ruka supplies desks, bags, sandals to Ebonyi schools
What began as concern over children learning on bare floors has turned into a lifeline of hope for hundreds of pupils in Ebonyi State, as a senior police officer, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Nwode Nkeiruka, popularly known as Ruka Ruka, distributed desks, school sandals and bags to pupils in selected public schools across the state.
Businessday report that over 1,000 pupils benefitted from the humanitarian gesture after CSP Nwode learned that many of the children were sitting on the bare floor during lessons and attending school without basic learning materials.
Eyewitnesses said that before the intervention, several pupils had no school bags or sandals, a situation that negatively affected their comfort, dignity and learning environment.
Speaking during the distribution, CSP Nwode said her action was driven by the desire to support quality teaching and learning and to improve the welfare of children in public schools. “As part of giving back to society, I was honoured to provide chairs, school sandals and school bags to support a public school. It may seem small, but access to basic learning needs makes a real difference in the lives of our children,” she said.
The police officer, who hails from Ebonyi State, also expressed appreciation to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for the opportunity and encouragement to serve communities beyond official duty. “I respectfully acknowledge the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for the opportunity and support to serve the community beyond duty,” she added.
CSP Nwode currently serves as the Police Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos State.
Beyond this intervention, she is widely known for her humanitarian activities in Ebonyi State, including the construction of houses for indigent widows, further cementing her reputation as an officer whose service extends beyond the badge.
