Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) is set to host its 21st Inaugural Lecture of the University as Professor Temitope Seun Babalola, a distinguished Professor of Pedology, mounts the podium to share decades of scholarly work on land and soil. The lecture, titled “The Story of Land and Soil: A Pedologist’s Pursuit of Productivity,” will hold on Thursday, 18th December 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the New 1000-Sitting Capacity Hall, Oye-Ekiti campus.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina,, on behalf of the Governing Council and Senate, has extended a special invitation to members of the university community, stakeholders in the agricultural and environmental sectors, and the general public to attend the landmark event.
Professor Babalola, a renowned soil scientist whose work focuses on the understanding, management and conservation of soil for enhanced productivity, is expected to explore the intricate “story” of land and soil, and how proper knowledge and handling of these natural resources can boost food security, support sustainable development, and improve livelihoods. His lecture will draw from years of field research, classroom experience and community engagement as a pedologist, and will highlight the crucial role of soil in national development, climate change mitigation and environmental protection.

The Vice-Chancellor will chair the occasion, underscoring the importance the university places on research that answers real-life questions and supports Nigeria’s quest for agricultural advancement, while invitations have been sent to academics, researchers, policy makers, students, alumni, farmers’ groups and friends of the university.

FUOYE’s 21st Inaugural Lecture promises to be an engaging and insightful academic gathering, as Professor Babalola takes his audience on an intellectual journey beneath the surface of the earth and into the world of soils, their formation, classification, uses and misuses, while proposing practical ways to harness their full productive potential.
