Board Dispels Rumours About Increase in JAMB Registration Charges
Ahead of the 2026 UTME, the general public has been warned against certain registration centres that charge exorbitant fees to candidates.
It has been discovered that many JAMB registration centres charge candidates above the approved fees set by JAMB. Therefore, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has frowned at the act, describing it as illegal and highly prohibited.
Addressing the issue, the JAMB spokesperson, Mr. Fabian Benjamin, advised the general public to freely report and expose any registration centre that is extorting money from candidates.
Speaking on Friday, he emphasized that the Board has officially approved fees. He stated that candidates registering for UTME with Mock are to pay the sum of ₦8,700. However, candidates registering without Mock are to pay ₦7,200, while Direct Entry candidates are to pay ₦5,700. Therefore, any registration centre charging above the approved fees should be reported to JAMB immediately.
As the UTME exercise draws closer, Mr. Fabian urged candidates to remain dedicated and focused. He also noted that the public should disregard rumours concerning any increment in JAMB registration fees. He stated that it is a false rumour and that candidates should not be deceived.
Speaking further, he gave a breakdown of the fees, which include: a centre charge of ₦1,500; a registration service charge of ₦700; a UTME service charge of ₦1,500; a reading text fee of ₦1,000; an application fee of ₦3,500; a bank charge of ₦500; and a Mock-UTME centre charge of ₦1,500.
He reiterated that candidates should watch out for centres using the registration opportunity to extort money. Meanwhile, Mr. Fabian noted that any registration centre that charges a candidate more than the approved fee will be disciplined accordingly.
